ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Board of Directors of Downtown Sanford, Inc. (DSI) and the Lee County Arts Council (LCAC) would like to encourage the public to come out and celebrate the 2nd Annual Artoberfest held at Depot Park in Downtown Sanford on Saturday, October 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Artoberfest is a festival celebrating all the arts that Lee County and surrounding region has to offer. From visual art to music, to other performance art, Lee County is a mecca when it comes to the arts, yet many people do not recognize that fact. All forms of fine arts and crafts will be on display during this year’s festival, including ceramics, art glass, watercolor and oil painting, printmaking, jewelry, woodworking, leather, sculpture and clothing. The Progress Energy stage will have a variety of musical, dance and other performances on the Progress Energy Stage. We already have confirmed acts such as the Fort Bragg Chorus, country performer Tim Hair, the Temple Teens, clogging, and martial arts.

Artoberfest will also offer an opportunity to showcase our community, particularly downtown, to both visitors and life-long residents. Annual festivals such as Artoberfest are a means of delivering a conglomeration of people to a specific area for a short period of time. By doing so, we expose them to our downtown businesses and hopefully encourage them to revisit our downtown in the future.

So what can people expect at this year’s Artoberfest? Well, we hope to expand the art and craft vendors’ area along Chatham Street. Booths will rent from $20.00 for Lee County residents, $40.00 for non-Lee County residents, and there will be no charge for non-profits. If you are interested in renting a booth at the festival, please contact

Vendor Coordinator, Leon Tongret with the Lee County Arts Council, ph: 919-774-6896 or e-mail: leontongret@yahoo.com. As I mentioned before performance art will play another prominent role in this year’s festival; our budget, however, is limited so we are asking that individuals and groups that want to perform to do so at no cost. Please contact our

Stage Coordinator, Maxine Mortensen, ph: 919-499-1285 or e-mail: MswMax@windstream.net if you are interested. We will once again have an area for activities for the kids, which will include a Bouncy House, Face Painting, Pumpkin Painting, Sidewalk Chalk Art, & other Children’s Games.

As for food we may have a few food vendors inside the park, but we also are encouraging visitors to pay a visit to one of our local Downtown restaurants for lunch. And don’t forget the Sanford Farmers Market will have fresh fruit, vegetables, plants, all day long as well.

While DSI is making a small contribution to the festival, it will not cover all of the costs associated with putting on such an event; we are currently soliciting any corporate sponsorships whether they be monetary or in-kind in nature.

Please contact David Montgomery at DSI, ph: 919-777-8332 or e-mail: david.montgomery@sanfordnc.net.

We will also be selling T-shirts as a fundraiser, which are already available at the Shops of Steele Street for $10 apiece. If donations are not an option, but you can volunteer some time either before, during, or after the festival, please contact our

Volunteer Coordinator Helen Hincks, ph: 919-708-2704 or e-mail: HandHHincks@windstream.net.

For all other general information about Artoberfest, please contact Festival Chairman Beverly Brookshire ph: 919-917-257-8997 or e-mail: BrookshireArtist@yahoo.com.
