The Wisconsin Pottery Association is putting on their 14th annual Pottery Show & Sale this Saturday August 22, 2009.  Doors are open from 9am to 4pm at the Allient Energy Center in Madison.  Admission is $5; visit the Wisconsin Pottery Association Website for information on free parking.

The show is a great way to spend a Saturday for both avid collectors and those just getting interested in art pottery.  The show caters to all levels of collecting: entry level, budget conscious, the advanced collector, and dealers.  Pottery that will be displayed will include examples of Haegar, McCoy, Red Wing, Roseville, Rookwood, Weller, Grueby, Teco, Newcomb, Fulper, Van Briggle, Norse, Marblehead and many more.  The show is known for having a substantial display of contemporary pottery from makers like Common Ground, Door and Ephraim Pottery making it a show for a wide variety of tastes.

Visitors will also browse the annual exhibit put on by the Wisconsin Pottery Association.  The 2009 exhibit is titled Rookwood – America’s finest, and will include a wide range of examples of Rookwood pottery – a favorite among collectors.  Their annual exhibit is always a thoughtful display, past exhibits include:

  • Pauline and the Pottery of Edgerton, Wisconsin
  • Fulper, Clifton & More The Art Pottery of New Jersey
  • Art Deco and Modern Style Ceramics 1910-1940
  • The Mission Style: How the Arts & Crafts Movement Influenced American Pottery 1900-1920
  • The French Connection: Impressionism in French and American Pottery 1873-1900
  • Roseville America's Decorative Art Pottery
  • Haeger:  The Early And The Extraordinary

A favorite feature of the show is What is it? Where visitors have their pottery informally inspected by members of the association.  They ask that you limit one piece per person.

If you get a chance to attend the show, please stop by and and say hi to Lana and I.  We will be bringing a nice selection of Roseville, Weller, Rookwood, a few pieces of Newcomb, Van Briggle and many other items.  If there is something of interest in our inventory that you would like to see at the show drop us an email or give us a call.
